Building Better Futures in Central Indiana

Did you know that nearly 80% of construction businesses are struggling to fill skilled labor positions, according to the Associated General Contractors of America? Moreover, 80% of new skilled trade jobs require less than a year of schooling?

But who is sharing these gripping career path facts with our high schoolers? As a member of the Builder’s Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI), we can proudly say, “We are.” And we’re about to change the face of the industry.

Custom Concrete and BAGI Focus on Skilled Trade Careers

Last week, BAGI unveiled its new initiative, From the Ground Up|Building Bet015ter Futures during career fair at Westfield High School with a highlight on skilled trade careers. Members of our Custom Concrete team – along with other Central Indiana construction professionals – were there to share this initiative and chat with area high schoolers about the myths and the potential in a career in skilled trades.

Together with BAGI, at several annual events throughout the area, we will be showcasing careers within the Central Indiana home building industry that do not require a four-year college degree. Path starters for these high demand skilled trade careers include: community colleges, trade and technical schools, certification programs and apprenticeships.

Being the Change in Central Indiana – From the Ground Up

Over the course of the last few years, our trade partners across the industry have been feeling the strain from a shortage of qualified workers. It’s become a huge issue and has prevented many from growth, due to the limitation of only being able to take on the work they can handle in the moment.

From the Ground Up|Building Better Futures is a targeted collaborative campaign in partnership with area schools, businesses and industry leaders. By actively showcasing in demand skilled trade careers for area students, we can help them see how to Plan It, Build It and Finish It, and provide a clear path to successful careers in the home building industry.

Up until now, we haven’t seen the younger generation showing up and asking us for jobs. That is about to change in a big way. We’re taken action. We’re spreading the word. Why not join us, and be the change you want to see in the industry.
