Custom Concrete has taken numerous active steps to promote the health and well-being of our employees.
With November being National Diabetes Awareness Month, Custom Concrete and the American Diabetes Association reminds both our employees and customers that diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the United States. Did you know that 86 million adults in the U.S. are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes?
By adopting a healthier lifestyle — like many of our Custom Concrete employees already have — we can prevent up to 90 percent of type 2 diabetes cases.
Together, let’s use the month of November to choose wellness and reduce risk. Here are five simple ways to get the ball rolling this month to start reducing your risk:
- Reduce intake of high-sugar foods and highly processed carbohydrates.
- Get plenty of fiber. Foods high in fiber include fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts and seeds.
- Choose water over colas and other sugary drinks. Add fresh lemons for flavor.
- Get Moving. Strap on those walking shoes. Choose the stairs instead of the elevator. Enjoy a daily walk with your family.
- If you smoke, quit now.
By taking it one step at a time and slowly making changes on your journey toward wellness, you can reduce your risk factors for many preventable health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes.
